Any Mechwarriors on Oppo?

I’ve been a huge fan of the Battletech/Mechwarrior sci-fi universe since I was a kid....I’ve played every Mechwarrior game since Mechwarrior 2, I’ve read many, many of the novels...

My latest pull is playing some Mechwarrior Online...any other Oppos partake? I go by ‘RallyDarkstrike’ if anybody wanted to add me in-game! I don’t get to play too often (or play any computer games, really...), but it would be nice to join up if anybody is ever on. :)

My Cataphract tends to do me well in the grand scheme of things...

It doesn’t cost anything as it’s Free-To-Play - it’s not too hard to earn money in game, and you get a big bonus when you first start playing to buy your first ‘Mech. I also like it as it’s not a fast, ‘reaction-time-twitch-shooter’ like a lot of games out there today. Sure, it’s a shooter, but it’s slower-paced and more strategic....though that certainly doesn’t mean it’s no less exciting. I know I’ve had my heart pounding a few times!

There’s a new MechWarrior? I haven’t played since they released that bad one on Xbox. Is it any good?

I’m not playing MechWarrior Online, but I’d be lying I said I wasn’t at least a little excited for MechWarrior 5

Very good! It’s been out for a few years now! It’s strictly multiplayer, but MechWarrior 5 is on the way due out (I think) next year! :D

They’ve had to take a few liberties with Mech: Online to make it more ‘multiplayer online-y’ like adding skill points you can level up, etc, so it’s not completely canon in that sense, but they try to keep the game fairly true to the universe.

I’ve not spent any real money on it other than something like $5 just to spruce up my mech with a custom paintjob. After all the hours I’ve put in on the game, I owe it to the devs to support it. :)

I’ve played enough that I can do pretty much whatever I want now....but I just enjoy the gameplay so I keep coming back :)

Do it! It’s a long-running, but lesser-known sci-fi universe originally based on a tabletop game....novels, video games, etc. It started in the 1980s if memory serves, originally! It has an incredibly in-depth lore as well...

Brief overview if you’re so interested (ignore the ‘Dark Ages’ lore stuff though...most hardcore Battletech fans consider it crap):

Haven’t played much since the mid 2000s.

But way back when I was pretty hardcore. Started playing tabletop back when there was only the 3025 tech readout (with the Ostscout/Ostsol error ;) ) and played the original Mechwarrior a lot. Locust was one of the most OP things I’ve ever seen in a video game.

It is a game that requires a lot of coordination - you have to get used to controlling your torso twist and legs independently! :)

The Locust is in Mech: Online! It’s a light mech, so if you get hit, it can go downhill quickly, but they are fast, so good for hit and runs!

Haven’t played one of those games in awhile. I had Chrome Hounds for Xbox 360, basically the same thing, as well as some game for like Windows 95 that was fun.

Long time fan of the series here. I spent a pretty good amount of time playing MWO from open beta up until around the clan invasion. I spent most of my time piloting light mechs for Blackstone Knights (formerly Blazing Aces) and we actually managed to work our way up to repeated 2nd-3rd place finishes in the various player-run tournaments/campaigns at the time.

Unfortunately the glacial pace of development and questionable balancing decisions over time eventually burned me out and other games have been keeping me entertained enough that I haven’t felt much of a need to return. I’ve been biding my time with the occasional revisit to older MW titles and fully intend to play the shit out of both MW5 and Battletech (the new one from Hairbrained Schemes) once they come out.
